Panel Installation
A panel upgrade replaces your existing panel with one that offers more capacity, more breaker spaces, and modern protection. Many homes were wired for far less electrical demand than today’s households use. Depending on your home, an upgrade may also mean moving to a higher-amperage service, for example from 100 amps to 200 amps, so your system can comfortably handle central air, modern kitchen appliances, and future additions.
Every installation starts with an evaluation of your current panel and your home’s electrical load. Your electrician will explain what size and type of panel makes sense for your home, walk you through your options, and complete the work to code.
A panel upgrade is also the ideal time to add whole home surge protection. It installs at the panel and helps protect your electronics and appliances from damaging power surges.
Breaker Replacement
Not every panel problem calls for a new panel. Sometimes a single breaker has simply worn out. Breakers can weaken over time, especially after tripping many times. A failing breaker may trip too easily, fail to trip when it should, feel hot to the touch, or show signs of scorching.
Our electricians test the breaker and the circuit it protects to confirm whether the breaker itself is the problem. If it is, we replace it with a properly matched breaker. If the real issue is an overloaded circuit, we’ll explain options such as adding a dedicated circuit. We also install AFCI and GFCI breakers where added protection is needed. And if several breakers are failing or your panel is nearing the end of its life, we’ll tell you honestly whether a full upgrade is the better investment.
Why Panel Upgrades Matter for Older Homes
Older homes were built for a different era of electricity use. A panel that once handled a refrigerator, a few lamps, and a television now has to keep up with central air, computers, multiple TVs, and modern kitchen appliances. When demand outgrows capacity, breakers trip more often and connections run hotter, which shortens the life of your equipment and raises safety concerns.
In Grand Junction, that strain is constant. Air conditioners run through long summer afternoons, and heating equipment works overnight through the winter. An updated panel gives your home:
- Capacity to run today’s appliances and HVAC equipment without constant trips
- Modern protection from breakers designed to respond to overloads and faults
- Room to grow for a remodel, an addition, or an EV charger
- Peace of mind when you sell, since buyers and home inspectors look closely at the panel
Not sure where your panel stands? An electrical inspection gives you a clear picture of your system before you commit to an upgrade. We’ll only recommend a new panel if your home truly needs one, and flexible financing is available to help.
